This is one of my favorite sedums. It really needs to be grown in full sun to appreciate its color changing abilities. In fall and winter, it is a bright yellow-toned green. In late winter, it starts getting red tinting to its leaves and by spring/early summer , it has changed to bright chartreuse and yellow tones, and the red tinted tips look like orange flames. After summer moves on, its color again becomes a more subdued, quiet yellow-green.
I received a piece of this plant in about 1993, from a very old garden, and wasn't too impressed with it, as it was growing in shady areas and a boring green. I kept weeding it out, but always had some pieces growing here and there. In 2007, I started creating little sedum bowls and added Angelina to one. For the first time, I gave this plant the sun it wanted, and was shocked to see the glorious color changes throughout the season.
Angelina types will grow almost anywhere, but will grow fastest with some summer water. It makes a low growing mat, about 3" tall, and puts up 4" stalks of yellow flower clusters in summer. It is very winter hardy and tolerates wet Pacific Northwest winters. Though it is easy to grow, and grows fast, it is not hard to weed out of areas it doesn't belong.
It looks great in container plantings, too, draping over the edge nicely. If grown in the shade, it maintains an even green color year round, so do try to give it as much sun as possible to enjoy the colors. 4" size pot, unless shipping.
